TCU made its first-ever appearance in the Rose Bowl in 2011, defeating No. 5 Wisconsin, 21-19, to secure the first 13-0 season in program history.

Bowl History

  • TCU’s long and storied history has seen the program make 26 all-time bowl appearances, including 16 different bowls. At least one has been in each of the four games that now constitute the Bowl Championships Series.
  • The Frogs have reached two Sugar Bowls (1936, 1939), one Rose Bowl (2011), one Orange Bowl (1942) and one Fiesta Bowl (2010), in addition to six appearances in the Cotton Bowl (1937, 1945, 1952, 1956, 1957, 1959).
  • TCU is in the midst of the most successful run in program history in terms of bowl appearances, having been selected for 12 in the last 13 years, including six straight.
  • Since Gary Patterson arrived at TCU, the Frogs are one of only 14 teams to play in at least 12 bowl games over the last 13 seasons. TCU is 8-4 in bowl games with Patterson on its coaching staff.
  • The Frogs became the first program from outside of the five automatic qualifying conferences to make consecutive Bowl Championship Series appearances in 2011, when the squad was selected to play in the Rose Bowl. The bid followed up a Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2010.
  • A 21-19 victory over No. 5 Wisconsin in the 2011 Rose Bowl marked TCU’s 12th all-time bowl win.
  • The Frogs’ last six bowl games have been played in facilities that have hosted Super Bowls.
  • TCU’s long and storied bowl history began with a 3-2 victory over LSU in the 1936 Sugar Bowl, giving the Horned Frogs the national championship. TCU’s other national title also came after a Sugar Bowl win, a 15-7 decision over Carnegie Tech on New Year’s Day in 1939.
  • From 2005-08, TCU won four straight bowl games for the first time in its history. At the time, the Horned Frogs were one of only seven programs nationally to have a current bowl winning streak of at least four in a row.
  • A landmark victory for TCU was a 28-19 decision over USC in the 1998 Sun Bowl.
  • Former quarterback Andy Dalton was a three-time bowl game Most Valuable Player while leading the Frogs to a 3-1 record during his time on campus. He capped his Frog career by winning Rose Bowl Offensive MVP honors in 2011.
