Bill Montigel

Head Coach

  • Bill Montigel begins his 24th season as head men’s golf coach and his 32nd overall season.
  • Montigel has guided the Frogs to eight conference championships (1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009. In addition, he led the Frogs to five consecutive league championships from 2001-05 in two separate conference (Western Athletic Conference and Conference USA), which set an all-time sport record at TCU.
  • The TCU head coach guided the Frogs to four consecutive Conference USA championships in only four years as members of their former conference affiliate, including a 26-stroke victory at the 2005 Conference USA Championships.
  • Montigel guided the Frogs to the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championship by overcoming the biggest stroke deficit in conference history after being down by eight strokes with five holes remaining.
  • Montigel has been selected as Conference Coach of the Year on seven occasions, including the 2009 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year. The TCU head coach became the first coach in the country (of any sport) to earn Conference Coach of the Year accolades in four separate NCAA Division I conferences (Southwest Conference, Western Athletic Conference, Conference USA and Mountain West Conference).
  • Montigel is only one of four coaches in the country to take their program to 20 or more consecutive NCAA Regional championship. Montigel has guided the Frogs to 11 NCAA National Championship appearances, including a ninth-place showing at the 2009 Championships.
  • During his career, Montigel has guided 10 golfers to a total of 16 All-American awards, including the 1998 Golfweek/Taylor Made Co-Collegiate Player of the Year in J.J. Henry. Montigel has guided 26 golfers to all-conference accolades, which total more than 40 total awards for the Frogs.
  • The TCU head coach guided five golfers to Conference Golfers of the Year in Alberto Ochoa (1997), J.J. Henry (1998), Adam Rubinson (2003), Adam Meyer (2004) and J.J .Killeen (2005).
  • Montigel currently serves a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA). In addition, the TCU head coach has served as the Chairman of the District VI Selection Committee and holds a seat on the NCAA Men’s Golf Committee and TCU Head Coaches Committee.
  • Montigel coached one PGA Tour player (J.J. Henry) and 11 players on both the Nationwide Tour and Gateway Tour
