2002 Conference USA Champions

History

  • The Frogs have made 14 appearances at the NCAA National Championships during their history, including 11 berths under head coach Bill Montigel.
  • The Frogs finished fourth overall at the 1980 NCAA National Championships at the Ohio State Scarlet Course where David Sann led TCU with a fifth-place showing.
  • J.J. Henry and Adam Rubinson each finished second overall at the NCAA National Championship at the 1998 and 2002 tournaments, respectively. Both TCU golfers finished one stroke back of a share of the national championship.
  • Tom Hoge finished third overall at the 2009 NCAA National Championships, which was the Frogs’ best finish in seven seasons. The TCU sophomore finished three strokes back of the national championship crown.
  • The Frogs are one of four programs to have reached the NCAA Regional Championship in 20 consecutive seasons with the same coach. The Frogs have captured nine conference tournament championships, including eight titles under Montigel.
  • The first conference crown for the Frogs came during the 1986 Southwest Conference Championships. In 23 seasons with Montigel as head coach, the Frogs have finished in the top-three of the conference championships on 16 occasions, including eight titles.
  • The Frogs have had 96 All-American, All-Region and All-Conference accolades in their history, which was achieved by 41 golfers.
  • The Frogs have had 21 All-American honors recorded by 16 golfers in program history. Chad Magee became the first golfer in program history to capture multiple All-American laurels in 1990 and 1991 while J.J. Henry became the program’s first three-time All-American.
  • Alberto Ochoa became the first golfer in program history to claim first team All-American accolades during the 1997 season.
  • Henry became the first golfer in program history to earn G.olfweek/Taylor Made Co-Collegiate Player of the Year accolades during his senior campaign in 1998.
  • Johan de Beer and Daniel Jennevret set a program record with the quickest TCU golfer to capture a tournament victory. De Beer captured The Prestige at PGA WEST title in his second collegiate tournament in 2008 while Jennevret captured the same tournament title in 2009.
  • In 2008, Montigel became the only coach in the country to have two separate individual golfers capture their first-ever tournament championship in fewer than eight collegiate starts. De Beer won The Prestige at PGA West crown in his second collegiate title while Tom Hoge won the Columbia University Invitational the following tournament in his eight collegiate start.
