Competed in the 50-, 100-, and 200-breast at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, setting a personal-best time of 1:02.92 in the 100-breast. Won his heat in the 100-breast with a then personal-best time of 1:03.72 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but failed to qualify for semifinals.

- Representing Panama, TCU’s Edgar Crespo topped five other swimmers turn in the top time of the second heat of the men’s 100-breastroke (1:03.72) at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
- Former Frog swimmer Lili Guiscardo finished fourth (1:11.43) in her heat in the women’s 100-breaststroke at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
- In 1996, Sybesma coached Frog swimmer Walter Soza and the Nicaraguan Olympic team at the Atlanta games.
- In 2001, in memory of former Horned Frog swimmer Matt Walters, Sybesma was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch through the TCU campus.
