Wayne Chester

Diving Coach

  • Wayne Chester begins his 14th season as the diving coach for the TCU swimming and diving program.
  • During his time with the Frogs, Chester has coached three conference champions to go along with two NCAA qualifiers. During the 2006 season, Chester was selected as the Mountain West Conference Diving Coach of the Year.
  • At the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships, Chester led divers R.J. Hesselberg and Kyle Callens to gold and silver medals in the three-meter dive.
  • Under Chester’s direction, Kelly McCain qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2005 and 2006 while Hesselberg was an NCAA qualifier in 2007 and earned 2008 Mountain West Conference Diver of the Year honors.
  • During his collegiate career, Chester was a standout for the University of Alabama where he captured the 1978 NCAA Championship on the one-meter board. A three-time All-American, Chester was a SEC champion in the one-meter board and was selected as the SEC Diver of the Year during his senior campaign.

Richard Sybesma

Head Coach

  • Richard Sybesma begins his 32nd season as head coach of the TCU swimming and diving program where he has posted an overall record of 396-269-4 (.595 winning percentage) during his tenure with the Frogs.
  • Sybesma has been honored with Coach of the Year recognition on five occasions, including three times as the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year. In addition, he has also earned Mountain West Conference and Conference USA Coach of the Year honors during his career.
  • The TCU head coach guided the men’s team to a perfect 7-0 record in 2009-10, claiming the Mountain West Conference Dual Meet Season Championship. TCU broke six program records during the season and sent sophomore Edgar Crespo to the NCAA Championships.
  • A 1992 CSCAA Master Coach, Sybesma has coached coached 18 All-Americans, seven National Champions, 17 Olympic trial qualifiers and three Olympians during his career. During the 2009-10 campaign, the Frogs had 14 All-Conference award winners.
  • The College Coaches Association has honored Sybesma’s women’s program as an Academic All-American swim team for 35 consecutive semesters while the men’s program has been honored on 13 occasions under her guidance.
  • During the 2009 campaign, Sybesma guided 26 swimmers and divers to the Academic All-Mountain West Conference Team, which led all programs at TCU. In total, 12 swimmers and divers were also selected to the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete honors after achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  • Prior to joining the Mountain West Conference, the Frogs spent four seasons in Conference USA where TCU collected five conference crowns and tallied a 78-20 overall dual meet record.
  • In 2004, Sybesma led the Frogs to a 21-3 dual meet record and the first-ever single-school sweep at the Conference USA Championships. At that meet, Craig Chapman was selected as the Swimmer of the Meet after notching three individual titles to go along with two winning relay teams.
  • In addition, Sybesma was also the recipient of the Conference USA USA Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Coaches Award (SAAC) as voted on by student-athletes from around the conference. This honor is given to the coach who exemplifies a commitment to creating a positive academic and athletic atmosphere while fostering the student-athlete’s development and welfare.
  • In 1996, Sybesma coached the Nicaraguan Olympic swim team at the Atlanta games.

Bill Koppelman

Assistant Coach

  • Bill Koppelman begins his fifth season as an assistant coach with the TCU swimming and diving program.
  • Prior to joining the Frogs, Koppelman served as head coach of Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah, and head coach of the Pirate Swim Club – a USA Swimming Club Team.
  • Koppelman has served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Utah to go along with a volunteer coach at the University of Wyoming.
  • During his time at Utah, Koppelman coached 11 U.S. National Swimmers, one Canadian National Finalist, 17 All-Mountain West Conference swimmers and two NCAA qualifiers.

Keegan Walkley

Assistant Coach

  • Keegan Walkley begins her fourth season as an assistant coach with the TCU swimming and diving program.
  • Prior to joining the Frogs, Walkley spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of New Orleans where under her guidance, all UNO swimmers achieved personal-best times in every event.
  • Walkley has also served as an assistant coach with the Stingray Swimming USS Club in Marietta, Ga., where she coached junior national, national and Olympic trail qualifiers.
  • A graduate of the University of Georgia, Walkley guided the Bulldogs to three NCAA National Championships and concluded her career by earning All-American honors on 14 occasions to go along with the national title in the 200-back at the 1999 NCAA National Championships.
