Brian Ostermann
Associate Head Coach
- Brian Ostermann has completed three seasons as associate head coach for the TCU women’s basketball program.
- Ostermann is primarily responsible for working with the team’s post players, and during his tenure, he has helped the Frogs reach the NCAA Tournament two out of the last three campaigns.
- A 22-year college coaching veteran, Ostermann spent nine seasons as a men’s head basketball coach at the junior college level where he posted an overall record of 178-107 (.624 winning percentage). Before joining the Frogs, Ostermann was the head coach at Missouri-West Plains for four seasons where he led the Grizzlies to at least 20 victories in each of his final three campaigns.
- In two of his final three seasons at Missouri-West Plains, Ostermann led his team to the Championship Round of the NJCAA Region 16 Championship Tournament, including his 2007-08 squad that posted a school-record 27-5 record.
- Ostermann also spent five seasons as the head coach at Colby (Kan.) Community College (1999-04) where he ranks as the program’s all-time leader in career victories (95-61).
- During his coaching career, Ostermann mentored 26 junior college players who have moved on to NCAA Division I careers, including the 2005-06 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year Justin Williams (Wyoming).
- Ostermann has previously coached at Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri Western and Mercyhurst College. The TCU associate head coach worked under Mittie as an assistant coach at Missouri Western (1992-93).
Jeff Mittie
Head Coach
- Jeff Mittie begins his 13th season as head women’s basketball coach at TCU where he is currently the all-time leader in victories for the Frogs.
- Mittie ranks as the women’s college basketball’s current leader in victories for a coach age 44 years or younger. The TCU head coach has posted a career record of 411-185 (.690 winning percentage), including a 260-126 overall record (.674 winning percentage) at TCU.
- The TCU head coach owns the most victories in program history, and his 300 victories account for 64 percent of TCU’s all-time wins.
- Mittie has guided the Frogs to 11 consecutive post-season appearances – a first in program history – including nine NCAA Tournament appearances in 11 years.
- During his career, Mittie has been honored with five Coach of the Year honors, including three times with the Frogs in the Western Athletic Conference (2001), Conference USA (2002) and Mountain West Conference (2010).
- Mittie has guided his programs to five conference regular-season championships, including three with the Frogs as members of the Western Athletic Conference (2001), Conference USA (2002) and Mountain West Conference (2010). In addition, he has coached four conference tournament champions, including three at TCU in the Western Athletic Conference (2003) and Conference USA (2003 and 2005).
- The TCU head coach has guided the program to the second round of the NCAA Tournament on five occasions and owns 16 victories over ranked opponents on the sidelines for Frogs. All victories over ranked opponents for the Frogs have come under Mittie’s watch.
- Mittie has coached two players that have gone on to play in the WNBA in Sandora Irvin (third overall pick) and Adrianne Ross.
- Prior to coming to TCU, Mittie was the head coach at Arkansas State from 1995-99 where he produced a 75-42 overall record and an appearance in the WNIT.
- Mittie held his first head coaching position at NCAA Division II Missouri Western from 1992-95 where he held the Griffons’ to a 76-17 overall record and appearances in the Final Four (1995) and Elite Eight (1994).
Tonya Haut
Assistant Coach
- Tonya Haut has completed 11 seasons as an assistant coach for TCU women’s basketball. She also currently serves as the program’s Recruiting Coordinator.
- With Haut on the staff, the Frogs have advanced to post-season play in each of her 10 seasons with the program while the team has posted a 222-101 (.687 winning percentage), including nine NCAA Tournament berths with her on staff.
- During her tenure, the Frogs have won three regular-season conference championships and three league tournament crowns.
- Haut is primarily responsible for coaching the guards and has helped tutor three student-athletes who account for six All-Mountain West Conference awards over the last two seasons. Two TCU guards – Adrianne Ross and Helena Sverrisdottir – have garnered Mountain West Conference Player of the Year honors over the last four seasons.
- In addition, Ross and Sverrisdottir were both selected as honorable mention All-Americans. Ross concluded her career with the Frogs and went to play in the WNBA as well as overseas.
Chris Johnson
Assistant Coach
- Chris Johnson comes to TCU following a one-year stint as head girls basketball coach at Lutheran High School-North in Houston. This past season, Johnson guided the Lady Lions to 20 victories on the year and a second round playoff appearance.
- Johnson, who also spent three successful years as an assistant coach at Westside High School, has been a mainstay in club basketball in the Houston area. Since 2008, Johnson has been both the executive director and head coach of Cyfair Premier Basketball, which is widely considered one of the top AAU programs in the state of Texas. During his time as director and coach, Johnson had numerous players ranked in the top 100 in the country, with nearly every player going on to play women’s basketball at the collegiate level.
- The Houston native, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business and Spanish from Houston Baptist in 2003, was a two-time All-America honoree at HBU, while leading the Huskies to consecutive Red River Conference Championships and back-to-back trips to the NAIA National Tournament.
Ebony Gilliam
Director of Operations
- Ebony Gilliam, a former four-year letterwinner for the TCU women’s basketball team, has completed one season at her alma mater as Director of Operations.
- Duties in Gilliam’s role on the TCU staff include handling team travel, academics, community outreach, compliance issues and other administrative responsibilities.
- Prior to her current stint with the Horned Frogs, Gilliam spent the previous four years as a high school teacher and head coach in the Fort Worth area, including the last two seasons at area power Dunbar High School. She led the Wildcats to a 57-14 overall record in her tenure with a pair of District 7-4A championships and state playoff appearances. Gilliam was named district coach of the year while leading the squad to a perfect 18-0 record in 7-4A play.
- A product of Southwest High School in Fort Worth, Gilliam, formerly Ebony Shaw, experienced one of the most successful playing careers in TCU history from 2000 through 2004. Overall, she ranked among the top-10 players for 13 major career statistical categories by the time she stepped off the TCU court.
